* feat!: remove signal crate
* fix: clippy
* feat(signal): limit the shutdown signal crate to Linux
Upstream now covers termination and session-end events on Windows and
macOS, but Linux has no equivalent, so pre-shutdown cleanup there still
depends on listening for SIGTERM/SIGINT/SIGHUP (#7827). Restore
clash-verge-signal behind a target_os = "linux" gate instead of dropping
it: the dependency lives in a linux-only target section, the crate root
carries an English Linux-only rationale and compiles to nothing
elsewhere, and the Windows backend is gone.
register() now takes the quit flow's unit future: the latch serializes
in-flight cleanups and releases after each attempt, leaving the
exit-or-cancel decision to the quit flow itself.
Verified with cargo check and clippy for aarch64-unknown-linux-gnu, and
cargo check on the host where the crate compiles empty.
Detached tasks spawned on every config generation set and restored the
placeholder DNS without ordering, so a set could back up the placeholder
itself and a later restore reported success while leaving it in place.
Reconcile from the applied config under the lifecycle lock, and restore
whenever the core stops. Keep one backup per network service, never back
up the placeholder, and restore only while the service still holds it.
Scripts verify every read and write and are killed after 5 s.
Refs #8070, #8168
When the service watchdog gave up or the core vanished, the owner
monitor marked the core stopped without telling the user, and on macOS
left the system proxy on the dead mixed port (#8029).
- On SameOwnerFailure, clear the proxy through the helper while the
session is still ours; displaced or unreachable owners still leave the
machine-wide setting alone.
- Retain the stop as a core failure with its own message, recorded
under the lifecycle lock and shown now or on next focus; a running
core resets the notice dedup.
- Log each watchdog restart the service reports, since launchd discards
the service's own log.
Show unresolved startup failures when the window becomes visible and clear them when either core mode starts successfully. Cover recovery followed by exit and WebView recreation, use neutral service permission wording, and document the Windows startup fix.
* refactor(log): migrate logging to tracing-estuary pipeline
Swap flexi_logger + clash-verge-logger wiring for the tracing-estuary
crate: buffered file sink with explicit panic/exit drains, live level
switching, and tokio-trace/chrome-trace behind crate features.
AsyncLogger moves in-house (VecDeque ring); file format and rotation
stay unchanged.
* fix(log): reset sidecar writer in place and re-pin service-ipc v2.6.7
Rebuilding the sidecar FileLogWriter on config changes leaked flexi's
unstoppable flusher thread plus an fd each time; the writer is now flushed
and reset in place, matching what the service crate does.
get_clash_logs_by_service drops the CompactString conversion layer now that
service-ipc v2.6.7 returns plain Vec<String>, and AsyncLogger is renamed
LogRing to match.
* refactor(log): span-based observability and log noise cleanup
Instrument spans carry the structure flat lines never could: the core-start
spine (mode, readiness/owner generations, pid, config file), proxy apply and
clear routes with guard generations, service IPC sessions with refusal codes
and outcomes, profile-switch terminal outcomes, subscription fetch strategies,
core upgrades with per-proxy version probes, backup flows, timer tasks, config
generation uids, and the startup setup flow; running-mode changes emit one
guarded transition event each.
~90 hand-written noise lines are gone or demoted (entry+success pairs, polled
getter echoes, phase brackets, window sub-steps, platform install chatter);
errors keep their anyhow chain, operation name, and item id, and swallowed
retry results surface per attempt.
Each auto-update reloads the core, which drops every connection running through a
`proxy-providers` entry. Existing profiles are corrected once at startup; the form
warns about shorter intervals but still saves them.

- Replace boolean/string validation results with structured ValidationOutcome values across config validation, profile switching, DNS validation, and script validation. Callers can now distinguish valid, invalid, skipped, and busy states, with invalid results carrying an error kind and message.
- Route core config updates through structured outcomes and checked forced updates. Generation and validation failures now discard runtime drafts and surface validation failures instead of relying on empty success messages.
- Preserve existing frontend ergonomics by keeping boolean service wrappers where callers only need success, while direct DNS and script validation consumers receive ValidationOutcome. Failed profile editor saves reload the backend-restored file content and synchronize Monaco models so reopened editors show the restored state.
Backend:
- Move resolve_done() from sync setup() to async task after futures::join!
so Timer waits for actual init completion instead of firing immediately
- Replace std::thread::sleep(50ms) with tokio::time::sleep in async context
- Remove duplicate refresh_tray_menu in tray_init (keep post-join call only)
- Delete dead code reset_resolve_done (process restarts, static is destroyed)
- Rename create_window(is_show) → create_window(should_create) for clarity
Frontend:
- Remove duplicate verge://refresh-clash-config listener from AppDataProvider
(useLayoutEvents handles it via invalidateQueries — single consumer path)
- Stabilize useEffect deps with useRef for TQ refetch references
- Simplify AppDataProvider event listener setup (profile-changed + proxy only)
- Remove Rust-side `eval(INITIAL_LOADING_OVERLAY)` that prematurely
dismissed the overlay before React/MUI theme was ready
- Defer `window.show()` from Rust `activate_window` to an inline
`<script>` in index.html, executed after the themed overlay is in DOM
- Remove `useAppInitialization` hook (duplicate of `useLoadingOverlay`
with no themeReady gate)
- Simplify overlay to pure theme-colored background — no spinner or
loading text — so fast startup feels instant
- Simplify `hideInitialOverlay` API and reduce overlay fade to 0.2s
- Clean up unused CSS variables (spinner-track, spinner-top, etc.)
